Here's the follow up story from the Santa Maria Times:

The second annual “Wild West BBQ Bash” in Preisker Park on Saturday drew more than 2,000 spectators for a day of competitive grilling and live entertainment, while raising money and awareness for the Family Care Network, a provider of support services to foster and high-needs children and families in Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties.
A group of 27 barbecue teams from the Central Coast, California and the West Coast faced off for the overall winner title.
After the smoke settled, the Santa Ynez BBQ team won the grand champion award in the International Barbecue Cookers Association-sanctioned contest. The Left Coast Q team claimed the reserve champion title.
Teams were able to compete in five categories: pork spare ribs, chicken, beef brisket, pork shoulder/butt, and beef tri-tip.
In the tri-tip category, local teams were well-represented, with Team Nipomo Style claiming first place, followed by Custom Tri-Tip BBQ of Santa Maria. Sixth place in the category went to Santa Maria’s Outlaws Chow-Line. Santa Maria natives were part of the Poppa Naps BBQ and Smokin’ Yankees BBQ teams that finished third and fifth, respectively.

Thanks for having this website, more people need to know about this part of the country and are distinct style of BBQ. Most folks don't even know what tri-tip is!

Keep up the great work!

Hi, Michael, great to hear! Click on the "Local BBQ Restaurants" link at the upper right of this blog for a list of local restaurants specializing in Santa Maria Style Barbecue. You can't go wrong with the Far Western Tavern and Hitching Post, among others. Enjoy!

Did somebody mentioned barbecue? Well, count me in, if they have barbecues on their menu, then I got to see this place. And mind you, quite reasonable price they got here. I can't wait to try dining Santa Maria style, I wonder how their barbecue will rate to my standards?

Hi, Glenda, we recommend calling the City of Santa Maria at (805) 925-0951, they should be able to give you information on this year's festival.

I am an artist who has recently moved to the area. I am looking for venues to have a booth and sell my art. I specialize in hand crafted ceramics, and fused glass. I would appreciate a date and entry forms for this event. Thank you so much,

Hi, Thomas, of course we are honored to make your list, and would love to be chosen as your Blog of The Week! As far as additional information, we would just encourage your readers to visit the Santa Maria Valley to experience Santa Maria Style Barbecue to its fullest, but we also want them to know that it's something that you can do yourself, no matter where you live! It's affordable and easy to prepare. Check out the recipes and how-to videos on this blog, and give it a shot. If you need to substitute some ingredients, no problem, just get creative. Please keep us posted, and thanks again!
